Samaritans - listening volunteer and deputy director
How I became a Counselllor:
I joined The Samaritans in 2011 as a listening volunteer and soon realised that being able to talk and really be heard made a difference to people in distress. This led me to embark on four years of training at The City Lit in London, culminating in a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. My practical experience with clients was gained with Cruse Bereavement Care and at the West London Centre for Counselling.
My counselling orientation is person-centred which, in very simple terms, means that I am non-directive, I will follow your lead in the session; you know what is important to you, it is your time and space.
I offer empathy, compassion, acceptance and I do not judge; we are all fallible human beings, trying to deal with whatever life throws at us.
Before counselling I spent over 25 years working with my husband, running a business-management practice within the music industry.
I should add that I also have first hand experience of counselling as a client and have felt the benefits in all areas of my life.
